My name is Josh Keogh. I was born, raised, and still live on the Far South Coast of NSW, Australia. I am 36 years old, and I began shaping surfboards when I was 18. I have now been shaping for half of my life.

Throughout my journey, mentors have appeared at different stages, each imparting knowledge and wisdom that has allowed me to continue along this path. Nothing in my surfboards is truly new, nor is it entirely mine. I have simply borrowed elements from time and from the masters, arranging them in a way that reflects my own approach.

Along the way, I have also been fortunate enough to work with a number of high-calibre surfers. Within their mind's eye, they carry a vision of a line they wish to draw—a path they want to follow, and sometimes one they hope to forge through uncharted territory.

As a surfboard shaper, it is my responsibility, free from personal ego, to offer a vehicle through which they can find and pioneer that line. A vehicle from which a new track might emerge and become possible for them, and, if it does, one capable of handling the terrain. Nothing more, nothing less.

Simply, I must listen. Then, through the skill and understanding of my trade, produce a tool that can serve the specific function being asked of it.

I feel deeply blessed to have crossed paths with these individuals. I feel blessed to have crossed paths with these individuals, there commitment and talent has allowed me to hone my craft far beyond what my personal surfing skillset would ever allow. I am grateful to all of my mentors and collaborators. My surfboards are a reflection of them, just as they are a reflection of me.

The surfboards I offer through the online store are a direct result of these relationships, as well as reflections of my own surfing odyssey and that of my friends. I offer both traditionally hand-shaped surfboards and CNC-cut, hand-finished surfboards, with a clear distinction between the two.

All of my surfboards are built using the highest-quality materials available and with a commitment to the highest level of workmanship. Simply, I am making, from a place of inspiration, the surfboards I want to make, and offering them to the broader surfing community should someone feel the call.

In the end, I believe a surfboard shaper is simply a toolmaker—creating tools that allow human beings to catch and ride oceanic impulses of energy.

It is a complex yet simple interaction that, for some, becomes the odyssey of a lifetime.

The surfboard is the interface that allows bipedal, terrestrial beings to briefly adopt an aquatic existence, and in doing so experience a richness in life seldom found elsewhere.

My hope is that the surfboards I create will go out into the world and enrich the surfing lives of those who acquire them. And in doing so, perhaps enrich the whole of their lives—contributing, in some small way, to a more fulfilling existence for them and for all beings they come into contact with.
